Bali Surf Schools

Bali is the world's best place to learn to surf: forgiving Kuta waves, warm water and lessons year-round.

Lesson about Rp 350,000–500,0002–3 hours per session

Bali has waves for every level all year, water at +27…+29 °C and a sandy bottom in Kuta that forgives beginner mistakes. The classic progression ladder: first lessons in the Kuta–Legian whitewater, then the soft peaks of Batu Bolong in Canggu, and with experience the reef breaks of Uluwatu and Bingin that draw surfers from around the world.

A standard lesson runs 2–2.5 hours: theory and warm-up on the sand, then water time with an instructor pushing you into waves and fixing technique. Group lessons cost about Rp 350,000, private from Rp 500,000, board and rash vest included. Most schools promise your first wave in lesson one — in Kuta that genuinely happens. Note that session times follow the tide, not the clock: the school confirms timing the day before. Board-only rental on the beach is about Rp 50,000–100,000 an hour.

Tips

  • •Book the morning session: less wind, cleaner waves, kinder sun
  • •A long-sleeve rash vest beats any sunscreen for a two-hour session
  • •Ask the school for lesson photos — almost all shoot them, but only on request
