Bali with kids: where to stay and what to check (2026)
15 July 2026 · 5 min read
Bali with children works beautifully — if you get two decisions right: the area and the housing. Wave-heavy beaches and unfenced pools demand attention. The family briefing.
Pools: the number-one safety topic
- Bali villa pools are almost never fenced — with toddlers, look for villas with a shallow kids' zone, or apartment complexes where shallow sections and people around are standard
- Ask the actual depth: many pools start at 1.2–1.5 m
- Set the house rule from day one: pool only with an adult
Areas: where the sea is calm
The southwest (Canggu, Seminyak) means waves and currents — hard work with small swimmers. The family classic is Sanur: shallow, reef-protected water and a long stroller-friendly promenade. Nusa Dua's groomed beaches are the other safe bet, and Ubud earns a few days for nature. Compare in the area guide and beach guide.
The villa checklist for families
- Kitchen — non-negotiable with kids; check hob, fridge, drinking-water gallon
- Mosquito screens in bedrooms — dengue prevention starts here
- Cot and high chair — family villas often have them; ask ahead
- Stairs and level changes — Balinese architecture loves steps without rails
- AC in every bedroom and shade over the pool
Run the full check-in checklist on arrival day.
Logistics and daily life
Nappies, formula and baby food fill supermarket shelves across the south. For moving around, a car with a driver beats scooters for families — child seats on request; app cars work for short hops: Gojek/Grab guide. Insurance for every family member is the base layer — kids first.
