Bali check-in checklist: what to inspect in the first 30 minutes
11 June 2026 · 4 min read
Thirty minutes of attention at check-in saves money and nerves at check-out. Run this list before you unpack.
Documentation (for the deposit)
- Video every room: scratches, stains, chipped tiles, furniture condition — with the date visible
- Photograph the electricity meter — long stays in Bali usually pay power separately
- Send findings to the manager immediately: "documenting — this was here before us". This is your insurance: how to get the deposit back in full
Technical check (first 30 minutes)
- Air conditioning in every room: switch on, wait for cold, check for drips
- Hot water in the shower — the heater may simply be switched off
- Wi-Fi: connect and run a speed test — critical if you work remotely: what speed is normal
- Hob, fridge, washing machine — run them
- Pool pump and water clarity — ask for the cleaning schedule
Bali-specific items
- Mosquito screens on bedroom windows — intact? Mosquitoes here are not a joke
- Water pressure and smell: villas usually run on well water with a tank
- Keys for every door, remotes for gates and ACs, where the breaker is, what to do in a power cut
- Can you hear construction? If yes, record it and message the manager on day one: why it matters immediately
