Bali visa on arrival: the 2026 step-by-step guide
21 January 2026 · 5 min read
For most nationalities Bali entry is simple: a Visa on Arrival (VOA) issued at Denpasar airport, or the same visa online in advance — the e-VOA. The 2026 procedure, step by step.
VOA terms
- Cost: 500,000 rupiah (about $35), payable at the airport by card or cash
- Duration: 30 days, extendable once for another 30 — 60 days maximum
- Passport: valid at least 6 months from entry
- Onward ticket: formally required — have a booking to show
e-VOA: the same visa without the queue
Apply on the official Indonesian immigration website before the flight: form, passport photo, online payment. At the airport you skip the payment counter and go straight to passport control. Apply only on the official site — lookalike "visa services" charge extra for nothing.
At the airport
- VOA payment counter (or straight through with e-VOA)
- Passport control: they may ask for an onward ticket and your address — keep your accommodation confirmation handy; a booking from the catalogue works
- The customs declaration is filled online — QR codes are everywhere; doing it in advance saves time
Common mistakes
- Confusing the 30 days with "a month" — count from the entry stamp; day one counts
- Missing the extension window — apply 7–10 days before expiry: extension guide
- Overstaying — about 1,000,000 rupiah per day in fines, and long overstays mean deportation and bans
- Flying out on Nyepi — Bali's day of silence (March) closes the airport for 24 hours; check the date when planning a March trip: seasonal guide
Staying longer than 60 days needs an agent-arranged long visa — plan it before the deadline, not after. More entry questions — in the FAQ.
