Extending your Bali visa: how to get 30 more days (2026)
18 February 2026 · 4 min read
The VOA gives 30 days and extends once for 30 more. The extension is routine — but the deadlines are not negotiable. Two paths: an agent (easy, costs more) or doing it yourself (cheaper, takes visits).
Path 1: a visa agent
The default for most visitors: hand over your passport and payment, the agent handles filing. Usually one personal visit to immigration for photo and fingerprints. Timelines run from days to a couple of weeks, so:
- Start 7–10 days before your 30 days expire
- Use agents by recommendation only — your passport is not a document to trust to a random chat ad
- If you entered on an e-VOA, check the official website first: online extension through your account is often the simplest route of all
Path 2: do it yourself
Immigration offices serve Bali in Denpasar and Jimbaran. The process: file documents, pay the fee, biometrics, collect — typically 2–3 visits a few days apart. Bring your passport, onward ticket and proof of accommodation — a confirmation from the catalogue qualifies. Dress respectfully: covered shoulders and knees.
The deadlines
- Apply at least a week before expiry — processing time counts
- The entry day counts: calculate from the stamp, not "a calendar month"
- Overstay costs about 1,000,000 rupiah (~$60) per day; beyond that — deportation territory. Set a reminder on day 20
After 60 days
The VOA cannot extend twice. Either fly out and return on a fresh VOA, or arrange a long-stay visa through an agent. Living in Bali for months? Monthly housing is where the real savings are: monthly rental guide and the VOA basics. More in the FAQ.
