Amed is not one beach but a chain of black-sand and pebble bays along fishing villages: jukung boats on the shore, Mount Agung on the horizon and coral gardens metres from the beach.
This is Bali's snorkelling and diving capital: the Japanese wreck at Banyuning, the wall and corals of Jemeluk Bay, and the famous Liberty wreck 20 minutes away in Tulamben. Entry is pebbly in places — reef shoes are a must.
